| Westwood Welcomes Keith Vaughn as Associate Pastor It is with great excitement, anticipation, and thanksgiving that we welcome Reverend Keith Vaughn, our new Associate Pastor and his family as they come to be a part of the Westwood Family. Keith and Teresa have been married for 21 years and have two sons, Nic, age 13 and Josh, age 10. The Vaughn’s first Sunday at Westwood will be June 14, 2009. To give our congregation an opportunity to say, “Welcome to the family,” there will be a reception in their honor in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the worship service on June 14. Keith is a native of Volusia, Florida. He holds a BA in Religion from Stetson University and a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Keith is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry program at Campbell University Divinity School and plans to complete his degree in May 2010. During 18 years of ministry, Keith has served on three church staffs in Wake County. From 1991-1996, Associate Pastor at Green Level Baptist Church in Apex; 1996-2000, Minister of Education and Youth at Rolesville Baptist Church in Rolesville; and 2000 to present, Minister of Education and Family Ministries at Temple Baptist Church in Raleigh. I know Keith as a man of God who loves the Church and who is committed to sharing the gospel in relationship. He’s a wonderful and engaging teacher of the Bible, and Christian education is both his passion and his calling. He expresses this best in his own words: Christian Education is at the center of who I am as a minister of the gospel. It is through teaching the tenets of our faith that we enable believers to mature in their personal journey with Jesus Christ, to discover and develop their gifts from God, to use their talents and abilities, to equip them for ministry and service in the body of Christ, and to empower them to live and practice their faith in the world beyond our church doors. It is my goal to help them connect in their relationship to Christ in a deeper and more meaningful way; to connect with other believers for mutual care, support, and spiritual growth; and to find their calling within and beyond the church. This will be his primary role as Associate Pastor; providing direction, resources, and coordination for our Christian Education Ministry. As part of this role, Keith will also serve as staff liaison to the Preschool and Children’s Ministry Committee, and with all of our ministers, he will share in pastoral care responsibilities. I hope you will make
a special effort to embrace Keith, Teresa, Nic, and Josh and help
them feel at home as they make the transition to Westwood. New beginnings
are exciting and can be intimidating, but I’m sure the love
and warmth that is so much a part of the Westwood identity will shine
through as we welcome the Vaughns with open arms and open hearts. In Christ, Mike |

| Wednesday Evening Pastor's Bible Study The Book of Psalms is the longest book of the Bible and it is a compilation of material written by different people. While most of Scripture is God’s revelation to humanity, the Psalms are the words of fellow human beings directed to God. God’s covenant people use these inspired lyrics to express their hearts, their feelings to Creator God. God created us to experience the full spectrum of emotions in our lives. During the months of May through July, we’ll explore the emotions expressed in several of the Psalms, focusing on the godly and ungodly ways to handle these experiences. The topics for May are listed below. Come join us on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall. June 3

| Carying Place Mission Project June 6 This mission project was originally scheduled for May 2. Since there were no families to move on that day, we were asked to help on June 6. Carying Place in Cary provides temporary housing for families in a 16-week transition program. Our job will be assisting in moving furniture either to a house or apartment or moving furniture to storage. Elvin Yancey is the team leader for this project. If you can help, please call Elvin (469-2449). A sign up sheet is located in Hall A. Carying Place is also in need of furniture. If you have some used furniture that is in usable condition, contact Elvin Yancey for details. |
| Red Springs, NC Mission Trip June 13 A group from our church will be going to Red Springs, NC on Saturday, June 13. This Mission trip was originally scheduled for Grifton, NC. On that day Grifton is over loaded with World Changers. Red Springs is a new “Mission Work Camp” similar to Grifton that has been established by NC Baptist Men. Much of the equipment that was in Gulfport, Mississippi, for Hurricane Katrina disaster relief work has been moved to Red Springs. Red Springs is located in Robeson County southwest of Fayetteville.
